Jurgen Klopp rested his full starting eleven against MK Dons in midweek in a bid to keep his first team fit and firing for this weekend’s tough away fixture at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United.
GK – Adrian
An impressive debut in midweek from the young Irish keeper Caoimhín Kelleher will keep Adrian on his toes with regards to retaining his status as Alisson’s deputy, however, Adrian’s own run of good form means that one would fully expect Adrian to start in goal in the league until Alisson returns. Alisson is expected to return to full training in the next few days.
RB – Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent is certain to start this game having been rested on Wednesday. Joe Gomez playing CB in the League Cup also suggests that Klopp would prefer to keep him there rather than have him alternate with Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
CB – Joel Matip
Though Gomez got some much-needed game time in midweek, Matip’s exceptional recent run of form in recent months should mean that he starts this match to maintain his relationship with centre-back partner, Virgil Van Dijk.
CB – Virgil Van Dijk
LB – Andrew Robertson
Milner played this position against MK Dons and did well, but Robertson is fit so the best left-back in the world will start as usual.
CDM – Fabinho
Towards the end of last weekend’s win over Chelsea, the Brazilian looked tired but he had midweek off like the others so arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world will start.
CM – Jordan Henderson (C)
Since moving into a more advanced position in the second half of last season, Henderson’s running off the ball has seen his often-maligned place in the team seem more than justified. His energy and running in behind plays a vital part in the team.
CM – Georginio Wijnaldum
Wijnaldum and Henderson may find their places in the side threatened in the coming weeks as Naby Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain continue to regain their match sharpness, however, for the moment Klopp will stick with his trusted Dutchman.
LW – Sadio Mané
A knock sustained against Chelsea last weekend meant that Mané didn’t train fully until Thursday, but Klopp has said during the session he was ‘’normal. No issues.’’
CF – Roberto Firmino
A linchpin of Liverpool at the moment. He didn’t feature against MK Dons and will be ready to go against The Blades.
RW – Mohamed Salah
Didn’t perform brilliantly at Chelsea last week but he’s Mo Salah and he’ll start.
