Predicted XI: Red Star Belgrade (H)

It’s the Champions League tonight at Anfield, and time to rectify the mistakes that were made in Naples. The Anfield Talk’s Ian (@ianyoungkop) asks, what team will Klopp pick to take the field against Red Star Belgrade?

Here’s how I think Klopp will pick his team:

Alisson: Apart from one mistake against Leicester City in the league he’s been absolutely brilliant, so I can’t see Allison getting dropped any time soon. Alisson has this ability to make everything look routine when so many other keepers want to make every save look spectacular.

Alexander-Arnold: Hopefully Trent will be fit for this game as I want to see Gomez back in partnership with Van Dijk. He’s not had the best start to the season but I’m pretty sure most Liverpool fans know what their favourite back for is, and that includes Alexander Arnold.

Gomez: Gomez just seems to be growing in stature every single game for Liverpool, whether he’s out  at right back or central next to Van Dijk, he never seems to put a foot wrong. This is looking more and more like it’s going to be, Gomez’s breakout season not only for Liverpool before England as well.

Van Dijk: What can I say about Van Dijk that already hasn’t been said before,  Colossus, giant, leader, This man is close to becoming the best player in the world in his position.

Robertson: Full back hasn’t been the strongest position for us this season as both of our full backs  from last season seem to have struggled. I think the focus on our front three not contributing with the goals they did last season has saved our fullbacks from closer inspection. Hopefully regular service will be resumed soon.

Fabinho: For me Fabinho looked good when he came on against Huddersfield  and showed that little bit of class we’ve been lacking in front of the defence. Could this be the start of our number 3’s run in the first team? I certainly hope so.

Winjaldum: Gini, like I’ve said previously has been remarkable this season and stepped up to the challenge of Liverpool going out and spending so much money on midfielders. On a par with Gomez for most improved player so far this season.

Shaqiri: Because we are at home I’d  be tempted to go with the Shaqiri at the head of the midfield. This is a game where we need to be on the front foot from the start as we don’t want Red Star Belgrade frustrating the home crowd. I genuinely think that no one has been better with their  final ball so far this season than Shaqiri

Salah: If Salah  is on song today I very doubt that Red Star will have anything to fight back with. With a classy finish on Saturday it looks like maybe Salah might be getting back some way to where he needs to be.

Mané: After sitting out the weekend with the injured thumb, hopefully Mané will be fit to take the field. Mane Has arguably been the best attacker so far this season with arguably only Sturridge for competition.

Firmino: Our number 9 has looked off his game since returning from the World Cup but hopefully things will get better soon. His final balls have been poor to say the least so far this season. But hopefully soon like so many others in our squad he’ll get back to his best, sooner rather than later.
