Predicted XI: Manchester United (H)

I’ll be surprised if there’s more venom and vitriol involved in any other fixture than in today’s match: Liverpool versus Manchester United. This game will be a shock for any player who plays today who hasn’t been involved in this fixture. Here’s The Anfield Talk’s Ian (@ianyoungkop) with his prediction of the starting lineup.

Alisson seems to have stepped into the spotlight of late, and no more than when Gary Neville singled him out for press in this week’s Monday Night Football. He has made some point saving saves in the past few games, and today’s game could come down to who has the best game out of Alisson or United Goalkeeper David De Gea.

James Milner:

With the injuries to Alexander Arnold and Gomez, and the fact Clyne has had so little time on the pitch, Milner may be asked to plug a gap, till either Clyne is ready, or one of our other right backs returns from injury.

Dejan Lovren:

There seems to be a lot of concern for Lovren getting the nod to day, but many are forgetting that he forged a formidable partnership with Van Dijk during the second half of last season, so hopefully that form will be carried over.

Virgil van Dijk:

Pretty sure Van Dijk would make Danny DeVito look good as a centre back partner. The guy is a monster. If Lukaku is selected today it could make an interesting battle.

Andy Robertson:

Robertson seems to be coming into form at the right time of the season, just coming into the Christmas period. One of the first names on the team sheet.

Jordan Henderson:

Would prefer Fabinho to start this match as the holding midfielder, but I have got a feeling the boss will go with captain Jordan today. With where we are in the league, the boss could put Mignolet there and I wouldn’t question it!

Gini Wijnaldum:

Gini seems to be Klopp’s most consistent selection in midfield, and I can’t see him changing again, played well against Napoli and Bournemouth.

Xherdan Shaqiri:

If Jose Mourinho turns up and parks his big double decker bus, I have a feeling that Shaqiri will be the key to breaking down Manchester United. Shaqiri hasn’t disappointed when he’s been selected so far this season.

Sadio Mane:

Hopefully Sadio has found his shooting boots today. With his sights being a bit askew in the last couple of games, hopefully he was saving the goals for today!

Roberto Firmino:

Bobby is slowly coming into form but still has a long way to go before he is the Firmino of last season. Today would be the perfect day to catch fire.

Mohamed Salah:

Why should Mo smile? When so many have said he’s been off form this season, just another hat trick will do today Mo, thanks!
