No matter how highly or lowly you rate the Super Cup, it’s a trophy up for grabs, and we should do everything in our powers to bring it home. Here’s The Anfield Talk’s Ian (@ianyoungkop)’s starting XI prediction.
Adrian: It was a blow when we lost Alisson to injury against Norwich on Friday, but hopefully Adrian will be an able deputy. Very good shot stopper, we’ll find out about everything else.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: Norwich wasn’t his best game defensively, but it didn’t really need to be. Fantastic going forward again.
Virgil van Dijk: Wouldn’t have been happy not keeping a clean sheet against Norwich, but would’ve been happy with his goal. Would genuinely be surprised if van Dijk doesn’t hit double figures in goals this season.
Joel Matip: Can count himself unfortunate not to start the season is the starting line up, but with his and Gomez’s injury records, I’d be surprised if the both of them aren’t rotated.
Andrew Robertson: Got caught out of position a couple of times against Norwich, but he wasn’t alone, great going forward again.
Fabinho: Pretty much had to protect the back four on his own on Friday. You can’t underestimate how important Fabinho is to us now. Would start every game for me.
James Milner: Gini’s been getting a bit of stick lately and it’s mostly been over the top, however he wasn’t great against Norwich, so the boss might give the our vice captain the run out!
Jordan Henderson: Thought he looked off the pace, hopefully will find his form from the end of last season.
Sadio Mané: After Mané’s press conference on Thursday, I doubt Sadio’s in the mood to sit on the bench.
Roberto Firmino: Bobby was man of the match for me against Norwich, his hard work and intelligence was incredible. When Bobby’s on form, he’s unplayable.
Mohamed Salah: Salah was brilliant against Norwich. Didn’t look like a man who’d only had a couple of weeks off!
