The first leg of our Champions League semi final has arrived, and here is the team that The Anfield Talk’s Ian (@ianyoungkop) thinks will take to the field at the Nou Camp…
Alisson: Everyone talking about the attacking players on both sides but I believe the performances of the two keepers could be just as important.
Alexander-Arnold: Could possibly be the biggest test he’s ever come up against. Been starting games slowly lately has Trent, but games like this will make him a better player.
Van Dijk: Van Dijk v Messi, clash of the best in the world in their positions, who will come out on top.
Matip: Would love Gomez to be starting tonight but fully believe that it will be Matip starting. Hoping he limits his runs through the midfield with the ball.
Robertson: Will probably come up against Suarez, so huge test of his defensive abilities, but Suarez has never been the best at tracking back, so could chances to hurt Barcelona.
Winjaldum: Fully expect Klopp to revert to his big game midfield of Gini, Milner and Henderson. Personally I’d go with Fabinho, but Klopp’s got us to our second Champions League semi final in two years, so who am I to argue.
Milner: Milner will hopefully be the calming influence in the midfield. I do worry about some of the silly fouls he gives away. Need everyone to be at 100%
Henderson: Hopefully with Gini and Milner and sitting there’ll be a chance for Henderson to do some damage in the opposition half.
Mané: Taking a break from his personal battle with Mo to be the leading scorer in the premiership, the Champions League seems to bring the best out in Sadio.
Firmino: Originally a doubt for the match, hopefully he’ll be leading the line tonight.
Salah: Seems to be hitting form just at the right time of the season. I’m sure Mo feels he has something to prove in this competition!?
That’s the team I think will take to the pitch today, do you agree with me? Tweet me at @ianyoungkop.
