Sassi (38′ pen) // Kane (11′, 90+1′)
FOOTBALL’S COMING HOME? FOOTBALL’S COMING HOME.
England got their 2018 World Cup campaign off to a winning start. They started off brightly as they peppered the Tunisia goal, before taking the lead after just over ten minutes. John Stones’ header was well saved but Harry Kane was in the right position to fire home the rebound.
A wandering arm from Kyle Walker gave Tunisia their way back into the game from the penalty spot. The second half was largely drab but up stepped Kane again, in the right place at the right time to nod home the winner.
Football’s coming home.
Jordan Pickford- 6/10
Didn’t really have anything to do other than the penalty, which he’d probably have reached if he had normal length arms.
Kieran Trippier- 7/10
Was good going forward and made some good runs forward and put some decent balls in the box.
Kyle Walker- 4/10
Seemed hesitant at times, and got himself in an awful position and wildly swung his arm to concede the penalty.
John Stones- 7/10
Defended well apart from one mistake, and brought the ball out of the defence well, especially in the second half.
Harry Maguire- 6/10
Thoroughly enjoyed his stint at left wing and spent the majority of the game transfixed by his remarkably cubic head.
Ashley Young- 6/10
Did alright. Didn’t really bring a lot to the game in an attacking sense and I’m not quite sure who made the decision that he and Trippier were on set pieces, or why he thought he had a 35 yard free kick in him.
Jesse Lingard- 5/10
Not entirely sure what he brought to the game for large periods. Started the game with some decent runs forward and a couple of early chances that he really should have finished.

Jordan Henderson- 8.5/10
Jordan Henderson is fucking marvellous.
Pinging balls for fun and a great shot on goal. Was England’s only real source of creativity, with his balls creating good opportunities. Did especially well since the midfielders around him decided not to come out for the second half. Should be the captain, and is captain in all but title. For the penalty he’s the one in the referees ear whilst Harry Kane’s off having a drink.
Jordan Henderson is fucking marvellous and you can fucking cop for that.
Dele Alli- 5/10
Showed flashes early on but quickly faded, and faded badly. Not entirely sure he came out for the second half.
Harry Kane- 5/10
I mean, he scored the two goals which is what he’s there to do but otherwise he was shocking. Slowed down the play, had no link up, and seemed painfully lethargic.
Raheem Sterling- 5/10
Showed promise early on but his finishing was off, and faded as the game wore on.
Marcus Rashford- 6/10
Full of running but did little with it.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek- 6/10
Only on for a few minutes but looked decent.
Eric Dier- N/A
Ran on the pitch with a badly fitting shirt.
