Coutinho (4′ pen, 15′, 50′), Firmino (18′), Mané (47′, 76′), Salah (86′)
THE REDS HIT THE RUSSIANS FOR SEVEN.
A penalty in the fourth minute very much sets the tone for the game. Captain on the night, Philippe Coutinho steps up and slots coolly to notch the first of three goals for him.
His second follows not long after, as some delightful one touch football slices through Spartak’s back line and Coutinho passes the ball into the net. Just three minutes later and the Reds have it in the net again, as Firmino volleys in the third.
Sadio Mané has the ball in the net just two minutes into the second half, as he volleys James Milner’s into the top corner. Coutinho gets his third three minutes later, before Mané bags his second. The seventh goal comes courtesy of Mohamed Salah, who turns on the spot before firing into the top corner.
Seven goals. Clean sheet. Top of the group.
Up the knockout stage Reds.
Loris Karius- 7/10
Makes some smart saves in the first half but when he rushed out for that one I wanted him gone. Other than that was sound.
Joe Gomez- 7/10
Was quicker to everything and stronger than them, then spent most of the second half watching the Reds be boss.
Dejan Lovren- 7/10
Was as solid as he needed to be. Bang in to Degsy Lovren being a solid centre half all of a sudden.
Ragnar Klavan- 7/10
As with Degsy Lovren, was solid. Played a beauty of a diagonal. Did another one of those mad tricks. Showboat.
Alberto Moreno- 8/10
Was doing really well until his injury, hurry back my sweet prince.
Emre Can- 7/10
Picked up a stupid early yellow but managed his game fairly well after that. Kept the midfield ticking over and was solid alongside Wijnaldum.
Georginio Wijnaldum- 7/10
As he so often is, quiet and steady, nothing flashy. Just the business.
Sadio Mané- 9/10
Was just thinking he was a bit wasteful and he pops up with two goals. Loads of the usual brilliance, and his volley is sumptuous.
Philippe Coutinho- 9/10
Skipper on the night and bagged a hat trick. His second goal is delightful. After a couple of dull performances Coutinho has really stepped it up.
Roberto Firmino- 9/10
Gets his goal again. Adds so much to this Liverpool side and is now steadily adding goals and assists. Loads of lovely interplay with the rest of the front four, loads of pressing and all the usual stuff.
Mohamed Salah- 9/10
Wins the penalty in the opening five minutes. Was good throughout and just when you think he’s going to go two games without a goal he sends four of their lads for the Echo with one turn and sticks it top bins. Cop for that.
James Milner- 9/10
Filled in at left back and showed again that he’s quite clearly the best left back in Europe. Maybe the world. Three assists and all the lovely James Milner stuff that James Milner brings.
Daniel Sturridge- 7/10
Looked good against the tired Spartak Moscow legs, good ball for Mané’s goal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold- 7/10
Ran on the pitch and looked gorgeous.
