Salah (36′, 45′), Mané (56′), Firmino (61′, 68′) // Dzeko (81′), Perotti (85′ pen)
IT IS A JOY TO BE ALIVE.
It is a joy to watch this Liverpool team.
It is a joy to watch them, for 60 minutes, be simply irresistible.
It is a joy to watch Mo Salah stick one so far in the corner it literally could not have been any more in the corner.
It is a joy to watch Mo Salah dinking a goalkeeper from outside of the box, to watch the ball trickle, to know it’s in.
It is a joy to watch Sadio Mané finally get his goal, to watch him slot it into the bottom corner.
It is a joy to watch Roberto Firmino tapping in from a yard out.
It is a joy to watch Roberto Firmino looping a header in, to watch it hanging in the air, to watch it hit the net.
It is a joy to watch the Reds.
It is a joy to be alive.
Loris Karius- 8/10
Think he could probably do better for their first but made a really good save early on. Was otherwise sound.
Trent Alexander-Arnold- 8/10
Think when Liverpool are excellent he is excellent. Brilliant distribution when the side is purring. Was otherwise sound.
Dejan Lovren- 8/10
Was absolutely magnificent and impervious for 80 minutes. Heads everything away, blocks everything, is everything you want from a centre half. Then, one lapse in concentration lets them back in.
Virgil van Dijk- 8/10
Was also solid throughout and in the second half seemed to decide he wanted to play centre mid. To be fair to him, there wasn’t that much defending to be done.
Andrew Robertson- 9/10
Always an option and always a threat. Always a willing runner. Puts in the greatest ball of the night at 5-1 for Gini Wijnaldum to miss.
James Milner- 10/10
The most assists in a single Champions League campaign. It isn’t finished yet. Did absolute bits last night, was brilliant throughout and it definitely wasn’t a penalty.
Jordan Henderson- 10/10
Jordan Henderson is fucking marvellous.
Marvel at him. Walk around him. It’ll take you a while.
Matches their midfielders and then some. They are elite midfielders playing on the highest stage and he outshone them
for large periods of the game. You can chat all the wham you want about him passing backwards and doing loads of shouting and pointing but you better be making some noise about that performance right there because it was boss.
Jordan Henderson is fucking marvellous and you can fucking cop for that.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- N/A
Get well soon, my sweet prince.
Sadio Mané- 9/10
Misses two, two great chances. And good lord did he miss them. But it’s sound, he’s boss and he’s scoring one eventually anyway. It’s a great finish for his goal, too, right in the corner.
Roberto Firmino- 10/10
Roberto Firmino is absolutely majestic. All the graft you’d come to expect from the Brazilian and tons of attacking intent. Great movement for his first and a lovely header for the second, arcing in the air for an eon, always in, always in.
Mohamed Salah- 10/10
Fresh from his coronation as the King of the Premier League, Mo Salah set his sights on the Champions League. Produces two goals of the finest order, sticking the first right, right in the corner. And his second, oh my the second. An ingenious run, a sumptuous clipped finish. It. Is. A. Joy. To. Be. Alive.
Georginio Wijnaldum- 10/10
Probably his best Liverpool performance. Really good and direct, full of energy, got in behind their back line more times than I can count. Should’ve scored at 5-1, should’ve, should’ve, should’ve.
Danny Ings- N/A
I have absolutely no interest in watching the charade that is him playing football.
Ragnar Klavan- 10/10
Liverpool FC. It is a joy to be alive.
