Player Ratings: Liverpool 3 Newcastle United 1

Mané (28’, 40’), Salah (72’) // Willems (7’)

THE REDS ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE.

Liverpool went behind early on and their unbeaten start to the season looked in jeopardy. However, you simply can’t keep out the Reds for long as they responded through two goals from Sadio Mané. They added a third through Mo Salah in the second half, to continue their 100% record for this season.

Up the Reds.

Adrián- 6/10
Didn’t have a great deal to do. Don’t think he could’ve done anything for their goal. Clear that his distribution has improved over the international break.
Trent Alexander-Arnold- 7/10
As always, good going forward and put some cracking balls into their area. That said, think he’s at fault for their goal. I think he’s too central and then gets beaten too easily.
Joel Matip- 8/10
As we’ve become accustomed to, solid defensively. Gave the ball away a few times when going on his mad adventures.
Virgil van Dijk- 8/10
As usual, great. Nothing more needs saying.
Andrew Robertson- 8/10
Had the freedom of the left hand side and was really unlucky not to score in the second half.
Fabinho- 9/10
Again, great at the base of the midfield. Made some great tackles, broke up attack’s and helped the Reds get on the front foot.
Georginio Wijnaldum- 6/10
Did alright. Lots of backwards and sideways passes and I don’t really understand how he can be banging in goals and assists on international duty and yet be so tame for Liverpool.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- 7/10
Looked pretty sharp. Some nice touches and turns of pace, couple of decent efforts on goal. Good to see him back.
Mohamed Salah- 8/10
Played an important role in the front tree, as usual. A well taken goal and unlucky not to have one or two more.
Sadio Mané- 9/10
Two great goals to put Liverpool back in front going into the break. Probably a bit unlucky not to finish the game with a hat trick but the two goals will do him nicely.
Divock Origi- 3/10
Was poor then went off.

Substitutes
Roberto Firmino- 10/10
Ran on and looked simply divine. Instantly made an impact with the assist for Mané’s second, and again in the second half for Salah’s goal. Some lovely flicks and tricks. Genius.
James Milner- 6/10
Ran on and looked phenomenal.
Xherdan Shaqiri- N/A
Came on and looked like a cube.

VAR and Mike Dean- 0/10
VAR good. Mike Dean bad. There’s no point in bringing in this technology to help out referees when it’s the same referees using the technology. It’s no surprise that VAR works well in other countries but in England it’s inconsistent. Sack all of the referees.
