Player Ratings: Liverpool 2 West Bromwich Albion 3

Firmino (5′), Salah (78′) // Rodriguez (7′, 11′), Matip (45+2′ og)

A fucking shambles of a performance caps of a shambles of a week. Firmino’s early opener was quickly cancelled out, and West Brom found themselves one up soon after. A third was ruled out by VAR, which also saw the Reds awarded a penalty that was missed. West Brom grabbed a third before half time.

The second half saw West Brom have the ball in the net a fifth time, but it was ruled out for offside. The introduction of Henderson, Milner and Ings saw a better period and the Reds pulled one back, but it wasn’t enough.

A January that started so well now looks like unraveling, as does Liverpool’s season. Out of the cup, dropping points in the league and no incomings looking likely, January could be when the Reds’ season falls apart for the second year running.

Simon Mignolet- 0/10
Dunno if he could do better for any of the goals but he doesn’t look arsed about the third. Doesn’t look great for the one ruled out by VAR either.
Trent Alexander-Arnold- 4/10
Overcommits for the first. Worked hard down the right all night but was very ineffectual and had little impact.
Joel Matip- 3/10
Appalling performance. Tried to back heel it out for their third, shithouse.
Virgil van Dijk- 4/10
Part of a collective that shipped five goals and struggled to get a grip of the defence.
Alberto Moreno- 4/10
Caught positionally for their second and didn’t really have much of an impact going forward.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- 0/10
Assumed Wijnadum’s usual role of ‘The Ghost’ and I barely noticed him.
Emre Can- 0/10
Plays a part in all three of their goals. Overcommits for their second and looks around aimlessly for their third, whilst their lad sneaks in behind him.

100% loss rate as captain. Make of that that he’s fucking shite.
Georginio Wijnaldum- 0/10
Sadio Mané- 5/10
Still possibly lacking sharpness and was unable to create much.
Roberto Firmino- 7/10
Absolutely beautiful goal. The most delightful of dinks. Missed the penalty, which proved costly.

Mohamed Salah- 7/10
Kept working and eventually got his goal. Perhaps not his most impressive performance but wasn’t poor.

Jordan Henderson- 10/10
Showed more creativity than the entire side had done within his first minute on the field. Needs to fin sharpness again but a strong showing.
James Milner- 7/10
Worked. Not always great but worked.
Danny Ings- 5/10
Controlled the best ball of the evening with his arse. Think that’s all I need to say.

VAR- 7/10
Did its best for the Reds, ruling out a goal and awarding then a penalty. Some obvious issues to be straightened out but a strong showing nonetheless.
