Player Ratings: Liverpool 1, Everton 1

Salah (42′) // Rooney (77′ pen)

THE REDS ARE BACK TO THE CAPITULATING DAYS.

A first half that sees Liverpool dominate and control possession, keep Everton pinned in their own half brings only the one goal. It should be at least two.

The second half is much of the same: Liverpool control the game but do nothing with it. They do not kill it. They do not put it to bed. Then a penalty decision goes against them and they are chasing a goal.

An opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table missed, a derby squandered.

Bloody hell, Reds.

Simon Mignolet- 6/10
‪Didn’t really have anything to do. ‬
Joe Gomez- 8/10
Was solid in defence and saw a lot of the ball going forward. Linked well with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mohamed Salah on the right.
Dejan Lovren- 7/10
Was as solid as he needed to be. Had a good game aside from the penalty issue, which was a very soft penalty and follow up replays show Calvert-Lewin leans into Lovren, his hand’s on Calvert-Lewin’s back and from behind it looks like a shove. The big takeaway: don’t even give the referee a decision to make.
Ragnar Klavan- 7/10
As with Degsy Lovren, was solid. Managed to bring the ball out of defence well.
Andrew Robertson- 7/10
Did his defending well. Put in some food balls but there’s a massive problem with them: no ones getting in the box to get on the end of them.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- 8/10
Brought us out of tights spaces well and brought the ball forward well. Put in a couple of good balls and had a good volley go just wide.
Jordan Henderson- 7/10
Was solid. Nearly everything went through him and managed to keep them pinned in their own half for the majority of the first half. Made some good runs forward in the second half, and was unlucky with the shot at the end.
James Milner- 7/10
Think he played every position on the left at some point. Played some lovely triangles and put some good balls in.
Mohamed Salah- 8/10
Gets the goal out of nothing with a show of strength and then a peach of a finish. Thought bringing him off so early was a mistake.
Dominic Solanke- 6/10
He did alright, but why’s a youth player without a single senior goal starting a Merseyside Derby? Won his headers and flicked on some throw-ins to get Mané up the pitch.
Sadio Mané- 5/10
Squandered a brilliant chance at 1-0 by selfishly going for goal when squaring it to one of three red shirts would’ve done the job. Made some good runs with the ball but was ineffective in and around their box.

Substitutes
Roberto Firmino- 6/10
Didn’t really have an impact and to be honest I’m not really sure he touched the ball.
Philippe Coutinho- 7/10
Looked to drive at the Everton back ten and was unlucky with his free kick.
Danny Ings- 6/10
Don’t think he touched it but he gets a bonus point for not getting injured.
