Player Ratings: Brighton 1 Liverpool 5

Can (30′), Firmino (32′, 48′), Coutinho (87′), Dunk (OG, 89′) // Murray (51′)

A team that hasn’t conceded more than two goals in a game this season shipped five. A makeshift defence of two midfielders and a centre half who has had his share of troubles shipped one, and that one was harsh.

Emre Can headed in from a corner, and seconds after the restart Liverpool sliced through Brighton’s back line to double the lead.

Firmino made it three just after the break before the referee decided he fancied giving Brighton a chance and gave the softest penalty you will ever see. It didn’t matter as the Reds scored two more; Coutinho with a genius free kick and Dunk with an own goal.

Up the South Coast Reds.

Simon Mignolet- 7/10
Makes an excellent save from Murray from which Liverpool score. Went the right way for their penalty. ‬
Trent Alexander-Arnold- 7/10
Was decent going forward and was generally good defensively. Got caught a few times but made a crucial block at 1-3.
Emre Can- 7/10
Took a while to get accustomed to his new role but once he did he was sound. Some stupid fouls though.
Dejan Lovren- 8/10
Of all the defenders you want thrown in between two midfielders in a back three Degsy Lovren is probably quite low on your list. Quite possibly even bottom. Did very well considering the circumstances and one chance aside was solid.
Georginio Wijnaldum- 7/10
Took him longer than Can to get into it and started very nervously but grew as the game went on.
Andrew Robertson- 6/10
Looked good enough, put a couple of good balls in early on. Must have been difficult when Phil Coutinho’s decided he hates him and isn’t going to pass to him.
James Milner- 6/10
Quiet and steady, nothing flashy. Just the business.
Jordan Henderson- 7/10
Generally good performance. Some good interceptions and some decent balls forward. Looked to be helping Wijnaldum a lot.
Mohamed Salah- 7/10
Worried at the state of his current goal drought. 90 minutes is a long time.

Had a couple of efforts that he probably should’ve done better with but was instrumental in both the second and the third.
Roberto Firmino- 9/10
Two really well taken goals, especially his second. Really good performance.
Philippe Coutinho- 9/10
Two assists in two minutes is some doing. Lovely ball for the second, and a delightful free kick. Then he kicked the ball off poor Lewis Dunk.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- N/A
Ran on the pitch then ran around for a couple of minutes.
Dominic Solanke- N/A
Also ran on the pitch.
Marko Grujic- N/A
Another one who ran on the pitch.
