A Sadio Mane double steered Liverpool to a 3-1 win against Newcastle at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah added a third for the reds as they extended their Premier League winning run to 14 games.
The Reds fell behind to a wonderful goal from left-back Jetro Willems. Willems cut inside onto his right foot before unleashing a stunning strike into the top corner after seven minutes to give the Magpies a deserved early lead.
Jurgen Klopp was angered when a penalty was not given after Newcastle captain Jamal Lascelles appeared to grab defender Joel Matip by the neck at a corner, prompting more questions about the use of VAR.
The anger soon turned to delight as Sadio Mane levelled the game moments later. A brilliant curling strike with his right foot, into the top corner, leaving Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka no chance.
An injury to Belgian striker Divock Origi, midway through the half, brought Roberto Firmino into the game and he was soon involved in the action.
Firmino seemed to overhit his through ball to Sadio Mane but keeper Martin Dubravka failed to successfully collect the ball which let Mane tap in his second of the game to put the league leaders in front at the break.
After the break, Georginio Wijnaldum almost gave the hosts a two-goal cushion but his delicate lob just went over the bar.
10 minutes into the second half the visitors had a huge chance to level. Christian Atsu’s cross found Emil Krafth at the back post with his shot going well over the bar.
Roberto Firmino’s impact on the game was more significant in the second half. He produced multiple flicks and key passes that gave openings to both full-backs, Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson, who were denied by Dubravka in goal.
The Brazilian’s flair and class led to the clincher, Firmino’s wonderful flicked pass fell perfectly into the path of Mohamed Salah who slotted home from close ranch to seal the win for the reds.
Firmino, who was awarded man of the match, showing how important he is to this Liverpool side with this performance.
Next up for the reds is a trip to Naples to face Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday with Chelsea away on Sunday, in their next Premier League outing.
Liverpool open up a five-point gap between them and Manchester City. City play in the evening game on Saturday against Norwich. The Reds maintain their perfect start to the season.
