Liverpool Ladies have progressed to the quarter finals of the Continental Tyres Cup after an excellent display saw them defeat Aston Villa Ladies 5-1 on Wednesday 15th November.
The hosts started as they meant to carry on as Niamh Charles’ effort was saved by goalkeeper Sian Rogers, with Jess Clarke sending the rebound wide. The pressure continued from the Reds as Ashley Hodson headed in Charles’ cross.
Villa sought the equaliser as Ebony Salmon managed to get past the Liverpool defence and fire her effort just past the post.
Jess Clarke and Niamh Charles were linking up once again, this time Clarke being denied by Rogers. It was to be third time lucky for Clarke, though, as she glanced in Hodson’s cross.
The third followed just four minutes later as Alex Greenwood spotted her penalty into the corner after Clarke had been fouled.
Villa grabbed a goal back as Jones pounced on the rebound from Jade Richards’ effort.
The Reds sealed the victory as Caroline Weir curled in a delightful free kick with five minutes to go, and Ali Johnson drilled in the fifth two minutes later.
Liverpool Ladies’ next game is away to Sunderland Ladies in the Continental Tyres Cup on the 2nd of December, kick off is at 6:00pm.
