Ex-Red Fara Williams produced a fine strike as Liverpool Ladies were defeated by Reading Women on Friday evening.
Manager Scott Rogers made a single change to the lineup that beat Everton 0-2 last week, as Niamh Charles- who scored the second against the Toffees- started ahead of Jess Clarke.
It was the visitors, however, that started strongly, as Remi Allen’s header struck the post early on. They took the lead not long after, as former Red Fara Williams produced a fantastic volley from outside the box.
Remi Allen doubled Reading’s lead as she fired into an empty net from close range, after Siobhan Chamberlain had made a save.
Liverpool began the second half brightly, as they had a series of chances to reduce the deficit. Caroline Weir struck the post, and Bethany England saw her effort go just wide, before Natasha Harding had her shot saved. Substitute Jess Clarke then shot wide and England’s header was cleared off the line.
Reading wrapped up the win in the 73rd minute, as Brooke Chaplen fired in the third.
There was a positive for the Reds, though, as Martha Harris made her came on as a late substitute to mark her return from a long injury lay-off.
Liverpool Ladies’ next game is away to Chelsea Ladies on the 7th of October, kick off is at 12:30pm.
