Match Preview: West Ham United v. Liverpool

The pressure is now back on Liverpool in the title race as they travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham. The Anfield Talk’s Logan (@kidddlogan) previews the Monday night matchup.

Who: West Ham United v. Liverpool

When: Monday, February 4

Where: London Stadium, East London

When: 8 PM

TV: Sky Sports Main Event/Sky Sports Premier League

It is now over to Liverpool to keep the pace in the title race. Manchester City tore apart Arsenal on Sunday to bring the gap back to two points. Tonight’s game against West Ham could be a pivotal game in the way the Premier League shapes out.

Last Wednesday’s result against Leicester was abysmal in almost every aspect. The attack was not firing on any cylinders and the midfield was pretty much the same. The defence was the only partial bright spot from the draw.

The lack of creativity from the midfield and the attack has to be a lot better. The availability of James Milner could provide that much-needed spark that is required at this point. Jordan Henderson is expected to be pushed back into the midfield from playing right back last week. The pivot of Henderson and Fabinho needs to provide that little bit of creativity that was missing from last week’s match against Leicester.

The Reds’ record against West Ham has been positive, to say the least, but Klopp’s men will have to be ready to face a West Ham team that is in need of three points.

Trent Alexander Arnold is still not fully fit yet but is expected to be back in the coming weeks. Joe Gomez is going to have surgery to apparently enhance the time needed to come back from his injury. He is expected to return in early March.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men are in utter shambles at the moment. From the Marko Arnautovic transfer situation to the overall team morale, there is a fire burning on the East side of London.

Last week’s embarrassing 3-0 loss to Wolves has been the continuing theme of this West Ham side. Pellegrini’s men have to improve on all aspects of the game. From the attacking options to the defence, West Ham have not been at their best the last several weeks, so they will have to step up big time against Liverpool to try and capture any sort of result.

Arnautovic is expected to be back after having to subbed off injured against Wolves. January signing, Samir Nasri, is not going to be available for selection on Monday night.

I am expecting Liverpool to bounce back from last week’s draw with a 3-0 win.
