According to reports from the Liverpool Echo, youth prospects Bobby Duncan and Paul Glatzel will be given chances to prove themselves in preseason.
They were both part of the side that beat Manchester City on penalties to win the FA Youth Cup this past season. The two youngsters were on fire for the entirety of last season at under-18 level. They scored over 60 goals combined.
At 18 years of age, both Duncan and Glatzel will not be expected to thrust themselves in the first team. Both will relish the opportunity to show what they can do in a first-team capacity.
Both players are set to be involved against Tranmere tomorrow. They could possibly be included in the squad for the tour of America. These chances are coming up as a result of the squad being thinned. Thanks to several players being absent from training due to holidays and international duties.
Mohamed Salah has just started his holiday following Egypt’s exit from AFCON; Roberto Firmino will be on holiday for the next three weeks following his successful Copa America campaign; Sadio Mane remains in AFCON with Senegal, who play their quarter-final match-up with Benin this afternoon.
Xherdan Shaqiri is also missing. Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Swiss forward is set to be out for a long spell after he tore his calf.
Klopp will be hoping that Duncan and Glatzel can replicate their chemistry from the past season. The two often provided for each-other.
Duncan and Glatzel won’t be the only youngsters involved in the first few weeks of preseason. Harry Wilson, Ryan Kent, Anderson Arroyo, Rhian Brewster, and Adam Lewis are amongst the list of players that could make an impact for the Reds during their preparations for their next campaign.
