Well you can tell that January is approaching as the entirety of Liverpool’s twitter fan-base seems to be completely head-over-heels in a transfer mess once more. This time round, the name on everyone’s lips is once again that of highly sought-after Southampton defender, Virgil van Dijk.
According to Kevin Palmer, of the Irish Independent, “Liverpool have made a breakthrough in their enduring pursuit of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk”.
This could finally bring to an end one of the most agonising and idiotic transfer sagas of recent years, which all began with Liverpool “tapping-up” the Dutch defender.
The Irish Indepenent reported last week that Liverpool were against paying Southampton’s suggested astronomical fee for the defender, but they hinted that the stance from the the Reds may have been a bargaining position and now it appears we are ready to shatter our transfer record to sign the Netherlands international.
This is all coming off the back of VVD sitting out of the last couple Southampton fixtures, which fuelled the madness and rumours significantly.
“Van Dijk’s future? We have to wait.” – Mauricio Pellegrino
According to Kevin Palmer’s article, there is an offer on the table from Liverpool and a deal is close to being agreed, and, barring interference from Manchester City and/or Chelsea, Liverpool will get their man.
