The draw for the Champions League semi-finals was made this Friday afternoon and after the typical festivities it was down to Andriy Shevchenko to make the draw which is as follows:
BAYERN MUNICH VS REAL MADRID
LIVERPOOL VS AS ROMA
The first legs will be played on the 24th and 25th of April with the second legs being played on the 1st and 2nd of May, with the final taking place in Kyiv on the 26th of May.
Liverpool will play Roma at home on the 24th of April with the return fixture at Stadio Olimpico taking place on the 2nd of May. Both will kick-off at 7:45pm BST.
This will be the first time since joining Liverpool that Mohamed Salah has returned to face his former side, AS Roma. It will also be the first time in 10 years that the Reds have made it to the Champions League semi-finals.
Liverpool have a good history in Champions League semi-finals. This being their 10th European Cup/Champions League semi-final. Liverpool have only failed to reach the final on two occasions that they have made the semis.
Liverpool have a good record against Roma too. With five games played between the two sides, Liverpool have won three, drawn one and lost the other. With that loss coming as part of a 2-1 aggregate win in the 2000/2001 UEFA Cup winning run.
The other results include the 1984 European Cup final which Liverpool won on penalties. The other two games were in the group stage of the 01/02 Champions League, with Liverpool winning 2-0 at Anfield and drawing 0-0 away in Rome.
Let’s look forward to the semis and a prospective final.
