Predicted XI: Sevilla (H)

Liverpool make a return to the Champions League this evening with a home game against Sevilla.

Karius: Loris Karius has been confirmed by Jurgen Klopp as the Champions League number 1 for now. I completely disagree with this decision as Karius has proved nothing to deserve this chance. It is incredibly obvious Jurgen Klopp wants Karius as his number 1 long term and this is another chance for him. I believe we should play our best goalkeeper, and at this moment, Simon Mignolet is that.

Chris discussed this further in his recent article here.

Gomez: Trent Alexander Arnold had a shocker on the weekend but it’s a huge learning curve for him. Joe Gomez is much better defensively and impressed massively against Arsenal. Trent is a brilliant prospect but I trust Gomez a lot more right now. To be honest, I can’t wait for Clyne to come back despite his attacking frailties.

Matip: I actually don’t think Matip deserves to play after his horror show on the weekend. For their 4th goal, he just can’t be bothered getting back which is a disgrace. Despite this, he will start due to our sheer lack of options at centre back. Hopefully, Matip discovers his old form in this game. It’ll be a tough test for him and he has to stay focused.

Lovren: I can’t believe I’m saying this but I cannot wait to see Dejan Lovren again after watching Klavan at the weekend. I don’t particularly rate Lovren but he’s miles better than Klavan. Dejan should bring some more aggression back to the defence after Klavan’s lethargic efforts at the weekend.

Moreno: Alberto was one of the better players at the weekend. Andy Robertson will definitely play on Saturday so it only seems right Moreno keeps his place against his former side. I’ve completely forgiven Moreno for his past mistakes and I actually think he looks a top class full back this season. I’ll just wait for him to make a mistake before I call for his head again.

Henderson: The captain will be the first name on the team sheet yet again. He wasn’t brilliant at the weekend but he was the best out of the midfielders. Jordan will bring balance to the midfield which I think will be very attacking. A big role for Hendo in a big game. He’s got to use his minimal champions league experience and he has to be involved unlike the weekend.

Oxlade-Chamberlain: I think the Ox should get his full debut in this game. Alex in my opinion is a very underrated player. He brings energy, versatility and recently end product to the team. He’s a younger and quicker version of Adam Lallana. This is the perfect scene for his debut. A home game, a game which should involve plenty of space to work in and a huge night. Alex has to take his chance and prove why he should be one of the regular starting 3.

Coutinho: I’m not too sure if Klopp will start him but I’ll guess he will. Personally, Phil Coutinho has to start this game no matter what. He is our best player contrary to many people’s belief. Our side is much better with him in it rather than out. I think Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum both put in pathetic performances on the weekend. Phil has to come back in and win the fans over.

Salah: Mo does have an illness however I don’t think a sore throat should rule him out. Salah has impressed and disappointed whilst he’s been here so far. His intelligence and runs in behind are brilliant but his finishing is incredibly poor. He has to work on this just like Lallana did last season. He’s a player with bags of talent but his final delivery isn’t great right now. Let’s hope he can find that final ball tonight.

Firmino: It’s fairly obvious Roberto Firmino will start this game. Daniel Sturridge will most likely start against Burnley so it’s another chance for Bobby to impress in Europe. Before Saturday, he was the most inform player in the Premier League in my opinion. He couldn’t do much against City and was one of the better performers. I think his pressing will be key against a good defence who like to play the ball out.

Mané: Red card or no red card, Sadio Mane wasn’t at fault at the weekend. He went for the ball and I’d be fuming if he didn’t go for it. It’s almost guaranteed that he’ll start this game as he won’t play again for 2 weeks after it. He’s going to cause the defenders a nightmare as he always does and I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t score at Anfield.

Substitutes: Mignolet, Klavan, Milner, Can, Wijnaldum, Sturridge, Solanke.
