Player Ratings: Atheltic Bilbao 1 Liverpool 3

Williams (29) // Firmino (21′ penalty), Woodburn (59′), Solanke (80′)

“QUICKLY! THAT BALL WAS TOO LATE. DON’T LIKE IT! PLAY FUCKING FOOTBALL!” Jürgen Klopp pretty much sums up the first half. A Roberto Firmino penalty put the Reds in front but Bilbao equalised through Inaki Williams. A turgid midfield performance was summed up by Jürgen’s calls, with a rather evident Jordan Henderson sized hole in the middle of the park.

The second half saw more of the youngsters and more goals. Ben Woodburn’s fine strike put the Reds back in the lead, and Dominic Solanke’s header sealed the win.

Preseason over, up the Reds.

Simon Mignolet- 6/10
Wasn’t massively busy. Think he’s poor for their goal; I think he should’ve been further out. Other than that, made a couple of good saves.
Trent Alexander-Arnold- 6/10
More subdued and had considerably less attacking impetus.
Joel Matip- 5/10
Think he’s poor for their goal. I don’t have a clue where he is. Where is he? Fucking miles away, that’s where.
Dejan Lovren- 5/10
Feel he’s a bit unlucky for their goal, with his tackle merely delaying Williams’ progress. Looked shaky throughout.
Alberto Moreno- 7/10
Got forward a bit but his crossing was poor. Was caught positionally for the goal.
Marko Grujic- 6/10
Still has moments of ill discipline, and was slow as a part of the entire midfield at times.
Emre Can- 6/10
Failed to instigate anything but did a decent job of breaking up attacks.
James Milner- 6/10
Didn’t really create anything and was running around like a headless chicken at times.
Mohamed Salah- 6/10
Was kept quiet. Not much else to say really.
Roberto Firmino- 8/10
Won and scored the penalty. Was one of the few Liverpool players who actually looked to create anything.
Divock Origi- 0/10
He’s burnt my head out already and the season hasn’t even started. Missed two clear cut chances and looked lethargic. Can’t be arsed.

Jon Flanagan- 5/10
Apart from a few tackles did little. Offered virtually nothing going forward.
Joe Gomez- 5/10
Caught in possession several times and poor passing. Poor display.
Ragnar Klavan- 7/10
In contrast, looked solid and played a delightful ball for Solanke’s goal.
Andrew Robertson- 7/10
Tidy performance, looked good with Mané in front of him.
Ovie Ejaria- 6/10
Relatively quiet but got stuck in.
Georginio Wijnaldum- 6/10
Dictated the play better than he normally does.
Ben Woodburn- 8/10
Really good half from the youngster. Great strike for his goal.
Ryan Kent- 6/10
Positive performance and looked to get at and past his man at every opportunity. Good use of both feet.
Dominic Solanke- 8/10
Great assist for Woodburn’s goal, and a lovely header to convert Klavan’s cross. Capped off a good preseason for him.
Sadio Mané- 7/10
Standard pace and composure.
